Spark Tutoring
About
I have served as a private tutor for over four years now, working with students ages 3 and up, in all areas of English and social studies. Additionally, I have worked with elementary math and science students as well. In my work, I make a point to encourage students by reminding them of progress and highlighting their successes. It is crucial to me that students follow their passions, so I also make it central to lessons that their interests are represented in some form.
I love working with students in the tutoring setting, because I get the chance to help them develop their ideas individually - an opportunity one doesn’t usually get in a classroom - and to encourage a love of the subjects they were once struggling in.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
For the first session, we spend a few minutes getting to know each other, about 20-30 minutes doing an assessment, and the remainder making a plan hat includes their learning and personal goals. After this, we set up sessions to follow and I use the assessment to guide areas we need to focus on.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA in communications, and MA in English literature, four years of private tutoring experience, two years as an Assistant Director at a daycare, two years as a college instructor, and one year reading college admissions.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $25-$35/hour, based on the needs of the student and the distance I’ll have to drive. This includes assessments, progress reports, and any supplies I purchase to support the student.
