Shavana Baker is a graduate student currently pursuing in MS in Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum. The program incorporates reasearch on teaching with in-depth preparation in pedagogy, curriculum development, scaffolding instruction for diverse learners, the lastest techniques in evaluation, and the use of interactive technology in instruction.
I believe that every student has the ability to succeed if given the proper and effective tools and support. As such, I will work with any student tirelessly so that they may reach whatever academic goals they pursue.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I evaluate student goals and outcomes, and previous experience and progress. Then I work with the student and/or parents (depending on preference) in order to determine the optimum way for the student to reach those goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Last year I worked as a Program Manager and Educator for a before and after school care program for students in kindergarten to 5th grades. One of my primary responsibilities was to offer homework help services for all 113 students in my charge.
I have a B.A. in English Literature as well as an A..A in Education.
I have previously tutored elementary, middle, and high school students in a range of subjects including English langauge and literature, history and social studies, and writing. I've worked with elementary age students in math as well. I also have extensive experience tutoring college students in writing and study skills both informally and as part of a writing center.
