Kate's Humanities Tutoring
About
I have always been a gifted student, but my true strength lies in synthesizing complex ideas and concepts into easily digestible explanations. I firmly believe that, in the humanities and social sciences, understanding the interconnectedness of systems is a necessary prerequisite to the practical mechanics of the disciplines. Concepts and critical thinking are the steps to success, and every student will undertake those things differently. My job is not only to help students understand the hows and the whys but to help them best understand their style of learning for long-term success in learning.
I love thinking about concepts, big ideas, and following the implications of lessons to all their possible conclusions. I've spent my life in school, working through the different styles of learning with a variety of teachers, and I take great pride in helping others understand their own strengths.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I would typically begin by gauging the totality of their interests– favorite classes and subjects in addition to extracurricular activities, hobbies, and goals.
I would then explore their favorite and least favorite educational experiences and former teachers. I believe that discerning a student's learning style is a necessary prerequisite to tailoring long-term tutoring to their needs.
