Rasmussen Physics And Math Tutoring
About
I am a recent graduate of University of San Diego. I graduated with a double major in Physics and Mathematics, and I currently work as a post-baccalaureate researcher. I enjoy working to make the oftentimes difficult subjects of physics and math accessible to students, and sharing the subjects I have a passion for! You can see my Linkedin page at https://www.linkedin.com/in/hannahgrasmussen/.
My favorite part of tutoring is seeing students have a breakthrough in a challenging area. It is so rewarding to see a student articulate their own understanding of a subject that had brought them difficulty and feel happy with their own hard work and progress.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student, I hope that a student can send me a specific problem they are struggling with, an example of a problem they are struggling with, or an example of their work so that I can best understand how that student thinks and prepare a tutoring session accordingly.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated with a double major in Physics and Mathematics with a GPA of 3.96, and I continue to use my education every day as a physics researcher. As such a recent student of physics and math, I remember the difficulty of learning these topics and I remember the techniques that helped me and my peers have a breakthrough in understanding, and am well prepared to provide these insights to students I tutor.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I am just beginning as a tutor, so I will give you your first lesson for free in response for a review and honest feedback about my work! Beyond that, I will charge $40 an hour for tutoring sessions.
How did you get started teaching?
I am just beginning to tutor, but I would help several of my peers in group projects or on homework in general throughout my undergraduate education. I have chosen to begin tutoring as I have a passion for physics and math and I hope to be a professor after attending graduate school.
What types of students have you worked with?
I do not have much experience tutoring, so I only have experience helping peers, but I am prepared to tutor students at the high school and undergraduate college level.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I have just moved to Portland recently after graduating, and I have loved exploring all the city has to offer so far!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I find that it has always helped me to do as much work as I can on a question as I can before going to a teacher or tutor for help, so that the teacher or tutor can see my thought process and won't waste my time explaining something to me that I already understand. I encourage students to do the same if they have time so that they get the most out of their tutoring experience!
