Traveling Tutor
About
As a life-long learner, I am constantly curious about the world around me. I am eager to learn how things work and solve puzzles. I have served as a City Year Americorps Member for 2 year, where I worked with 80 students, tutoring them in 7th Grade Math, Algebra, and Geometry. Those lightbulb moments when my students understand the task at hand are the most rewarding part of my job and I want to help other students reach that lightbulb moment.
I have a BA in Environment and Sustainability and a MA in Religion and the Environment. My passion for the environment and the science behind how our natural world operates drives me to teach others about the wonderful world we live in.
I love to find a problem and work together with a student to piece together the correct way to find the answer. Especially in math problems, organization is key and I love to model how to stay organized so the work and answer is clear to whoever is grading the assignment.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When I meet a new student, I am interested in getting to know the student. What are their interests? What activities are they involved in? If I can tie the tutoring subject to their interests, I find learning becomes a lot more fun.
I also would like to know what assignments/ textbooks the student is working with in class so that I can be sure to compliment what is being taught in the classroom. I want to make sure the student not only understands the material, but is successful in the classroom. Knowing the resources available to the student allows me to aid in the student's success.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have worked several summers in an educational compacity, including enviornmental education coordinator. I have worked as a tutor in a public school setting for 2 years and am now an outdoor educator.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$30/hr for Middle School Subjects
$40/hr for High School Subjects
$45/hr for College Subjects
Half hour sessions are available for half the price.
How did you get started teaching?
Both of my parents are teachers, so I almost feel as if it is in my blood. I was a student who learned best through teaching others. If there was a test, I was the one who re-explained the content to my classmates; clarifying the material for them, while solidifying the information in my brain.
As I continue to learn more deeply about subjects, I become more passionate about teaching others about that subject. Enviornmental Science is the subject I am the most passionate about and the subject in which I have a BA. Over the past 2 years of tutoring in a public school, I have realized a passion for teaching math, as well.
