Math Maven's Tutoring
About
I have a PhD in math and taught college algebra and trigonometry at a large public university for 6 years. I then worked with geospatial data and geostatistics for several years. I turned to tutoring to provide more flexibility. When tutoring, I focus on helping students develop confidence with the types of problems and patience to work through the steps carefully.
I enjoy seeing the light bulb in students when they finally realize it isn't all a mystery and they can totally do it!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Before we start I'll want to know what you hope to get out of tutoring, what your homework schedule is, and what kind of tutoring schedule or interation you are looking for. Even if your goal is short, say to get over a mental block with a particular concept, that's fine, I just want to know what you are hoping for. I'll also want to know how much time you are willing to commit to working on homework outside of tutoring time. There isn't necessarily a right answer on this, but it will help me to determine if I will be able to help you or not. If I think I can help then we can set a time for our first tutoring session. At least one day before each session, you should send a list of the problems or types of problems you are struggling with. You can add more later, but if I know the problems I can strategize how to better help you.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a PhD in math and 6 years of experience teaching undergraduates in algebra and trigonometry.
