Mr. Sandman Math Tutoring
About
I am currently a math teacher at Putnam City High School. I have taught previously at KIPP Reach Charter School as well. I have taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 and Geometry but excel in other courses. In high school I received 5's on the AP Calculus AB and BC exams and scored a 35 on the ACT math section. In college I majored in Physics with a minor in Mathematics but excel in applied mathematics.
I had the opportunity to become an engineer. Instead I gave up a career in that to spread a love of math for others. Math can be a very difficult subject and a lot of times we just need some more 1-1 help to speak it fluently. Math is super fun and beautiful and I want to share that love of math with you.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I want to see what the student's needs and vision are first for tutoring. I want to know what they want to work on, and what are their goals going forward. From there, I would love diagnostic information (this could be a previous exam or assignments, or we can take a diagnostic exam) to be able to use data to maxamize instruction.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am currently a teacher and have taught math for 4 years. I love using technology as a tool to improve lessons.
How did you get started teaching?
I did a program called Teach for America
What types of students have you worked with?
I have taught middle school and high school students. Students students have needed a lot more support, while I have taught students that are extremely gifted. I have worked with a lot of students that have needed IEPs and I will excel in giving you your own individualized learning plan.
