About this tutor

My service stands out because of the credentials and the past teaching experiences that I have. I'm currently a 4th Grade Math Teacher at Hamilton Intermediate School in Columbus, Ohio. Additionally, I'm currently pursuing my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, with a Gifted Endorsement, from the University of Cincinnati. Last May, I graduated with my Bachelor's Degree in Middle Childhood Education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, specializing in Math and English Language Arts. Throughout my time teaching, I've worked with students from 1st through 8th grade. Through these experiences, I've worked with a variety of learners with a range of abilities. In addition to past teaching experiences, I've also worked as a summer camp counselor, tutor, and swim lesson instructor.

The thing I enjoy most about teaching is inspiring students to grow a love for learning and empowering them to achieve anything. I believe that every child can be successful in learning; they simply need to be given the support and tools to do so. As an educator, I love watching students grow as individuals through gaining confidence in themselves and the academic curriculum.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

When working with a new student, I typically reach out to the family and student to introduce myself and get to know the student. I like to know their interests, passions, likes, dislikes, ways they learn best, what they look for in myself as an educator, what they'd like to accomplish through tutoring, among many other things. This information allows me to get to know the student and understand how I can help them best achieve their goals. From there, we'll figure out a tutoring schedule and create a plan of the topics we'd like to cover throughout our tutoring time together based on student interests and needs.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am currently a 4th Grade Math Teacher at Hamilton Intermediate School in Columbus, Ohio. Additionally, I am currently working on my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, with a Gifted Endorsement, from the University of Cincinnati.

Last May, I graduated with my Bachelor's Degree in Middle Childhood Education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. I have specialization areas in Math and English Language Arts.  During my time as a pre-service teacher, I worked with students in 1st through 8th grade. I've spent the majority of my education career working with upper elementary students.

Outside of teaching, I've also had other jobs as a summer camp counselor, tutor, and swim lesson instructor.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

I have a conversation with families to discuss pricing. Pricing depends on the length of time tutoring, if travel is involved, etc. Please reach out to me for specific details on the price!

How did you get started teaching?

I grew my love for teaching as a young child. I had always adored my teachers growing up and loved learning at school. As a person who loves working with kids, I decided to pursue my Bachelor's Degree in Education and have loved being a teacher ever since I began my program!

What types of students have you worked with?

I've worked with students from primary grades to middle school; specifically, grades one through eight. I've had the most experience working with upper elementary students. However, I enjoy working with all elementary school students.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

I would advise you to find a teacher that you connect with and one that is willing to make learning enjoyable for you! Learning is fun! We simply need to figure out what engages you, the ways you learn best, and create experiences that are meaningful to your life!

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

Students should consider their areas of strengths and improvements in a given subject area. Students should also consider the ways they learn best and ways they enjoy learning.
