About

When you choose me, you are getting nearly 30 years of successful math teaching and tutoring experience. I have tutored and taught everything from Basic Arithmetic to Calc 2. I started tutoring professionally as a high school student. Since then, I've taught in many different environments - college classrooms, high school classrooms, online classrooms, and the corporate world. I spent seven years training peer math tutors in a college math lab. My entire career has been focused on math education having earned a B.S. in Secondary Math Education, a Master of Arts in Teaching Mathematics, both from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and an Education Specialist Degree from the University of Toledo, majoring in Statistics Education. Additionally, I have earned 60+ credit hours in graduate level mathematics courses from Bowling Green State University. There is no course up through Calculus 2 that I cannot help you with. I hope you let me try!

I especially love showing others that math is not necessarily the scary subject many think it is. I enjoy finding ways to help them remember what they've learned and give them shortcuts to complete problems once they've learned the fundamentals.

Frequently asked questions

First, I ask the student what they are hoping to get out of the sessions.  Often they want to do better in testing situations.  If that is the case, then I like to go over a recent test with them and analyze the types of errors they are making on the test.  I also give them a test anxiety assessment to see if that is playing a role in their test results.  I give them tips and tricks on how to avoid the same type of mistakes on the next test, how to go about taking a test, and how to prepare for a test.

Some students may simply want me to help them with homework questions.  I usually ask students to tell me everything they know about a problem they are struggling with.  This is how I know where to start with the instructional process.
