About this tutor

I am a certified elementary teacher taking time out of the classroom to be with my children. I worked over 8 years in the classroom (6 years in grade 4 and 2 years in middle school SS). I love teaching math, reading, and science and have helped many students improve their skills and confidence in the classroom and in private tutoring sessions. I have worked with a wide ranges of abilities and I am comfortable assessing student needs and tailoring lessons to helps address their growth areas.

I love helping students build confidence in themselves as they master something that's been a challenger to them. I am a firm believer in positive attitude and growth mindset.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I like to get to know the student and see how they learn and what they need help with. Once we figure out what our goals are, we work methodically to achieve them and build confidence.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a bachelor of science in elementary education from Indiana University. I taught middle school for two years and 4th grade for six years. I also coach swimming.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

I normally charge $20-25 per half hour and $40-50 per hour.

How did you get started teaching?

My sister was a teacher and I love children!

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with a wide range of students and ability levels. I have worked mostly with 4th graders (9/10 year olds) but I've also tutored middle schoolers and taught 2 years of middle school social studies.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Find a teacher that motivates you and explains subject matter in a way that is understandable.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

If they can solve it on their own using tools, resources, and knowledge they already have.
