Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I begin by meeting with the new student and going over the courses, subjects, or skills that we will be working with during our future sessions. I prefer to see any past work that has been completed in order to understand the level we are working at. I then proceed to plan out the future sessions accordingly, taking into consideration any assignment or test deadlines. During my first session with a new student I can typically get an understanding for the student's learning style. My process ensures that we are working at a pace that is productive and comfortable for the student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a high level and very broad educational background. I have held positions both paid and voluntary at several high schools and universities and have been tutoring for over 10 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I do not have a standard pricing system. I work with students and parents of students in order to come up with pricing and payments that fit their situation and needs. I am very flexible when it comes to payment.
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching and tutoring when I noticed that I was performing at an advanced level in high school and saw that some of my fellow classmates and teammates were struggling in areas that I was excelling in. At that point I took the initiative to volunteer my time and knowledge towards helping others achieve their educational goals. When I found the opportunity to be employed doing the same thing, I ceased those opportunities and have been teaching ever since.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with grade school and high school students, those working to attain their GED, undergraduate students and student athletes and some active military veterans in service training courses.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Just over a year ago I came to find out that an old friend of mine who has four children had two daughters who were not doing too well in school; however, I knew they were very bright young ladies. I took the time over the next few weeks to be present during their homework time. After a few homework sessions I recognized the issue right away. The younger of the two girls who also happens to have a slight speech impediment knew the material however she was having trouble relaying the material. Mainly vocabulary and reading. After working with her on her homework every week and focusing a lot more on her reading, her grades in every subject rose tremendously, to the point that she has received recognition several times since then for her academic achievements
