Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I do a quick diagnostic test and we go over the answers to see what we should focus on and how long the program will take.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Three years of philosopy, a major in creative writing, scoring into the top 1% in test prep after having been a B student and even getting an F.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
It is generally about $60/hr, but lower for elementary and middle school tutoring.
How did you get started teaching?
Volunteer tutoring at an elementary school.
What types of students have you worked with?
Students in the bottom 5th percentile to students in the 95th percentile in test scores: a wide variety of learning challenges, from deaf students to ADD to other challenges. I've helped students in the 50th percentile or higher into the top 1 to 5%.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Having my baby daughter Isabella 3 months ago.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a tutor in your area of expertise?
Have a first session with the tutor first to see how well you work together and what his system is about. Do you need a certain increase on your test scores, or do you just want better test taking habits?
What questions should students think through before talking to tutors about their needs?
What sort of scores are they looking for and what is the final end.
