Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First I work to determine the goals for tutoring. Through conversation with the parent or adult student, I assess the need for remediation, grade-level instruction, and executive functioning strategies. I like to see any standardized testing and reports from educational evaluations so that I can better understand the student's level of current performance, deficit areas, and strengths. It's also critical (especially for reluctant or frustrated students) to get a good sense of the student's interests and personal goals.
From this information I can determine the curriculum and instructional approach needed and begin to gather resources and construct an individualized lesson plan.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been certified to teach English, Communications, Theatre, and Language Arts in the state of Ohio since 1995.
I am a Certified Fellow-in-Training and Clinical Supervisor of the Academy of Orton Gillingham
I have 29 years of experience working with students who learn differently. I have been a tutor, teacher, supervisor, and curriculum designer in a school for children with learning differences.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
