About
Hello! With 18 years of teaching experience and multiple teaching awards, I am hear to help make math fun, curious, and coherent. I have experience in teaching middle school and high school mathematics at public and private schools. I am passionate to make learning mathematics joyous and inquisitive, focusing more on problem solving and critical thinking than procedures and math facts.
I love the ability to have students see themselves as mathematicians. Every student has brilliant mathematical ideas. It just takes the right question and support to get there. I enjoy thinking of different strategies to help students and using technology in meaningful ways to support student thinking.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start by asking students about their background, what has worked with them in studying math, their strengths, and where they wish to improve.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have four degrees in math and engineering related to the discipline or education. I also have two years of coursework in a PhD in mathematics education. I have won multiple teaching awards in mathematics education and continue professional development by attending and speaking at conferences.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $50 per hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I had a number of great teachers in math that encouraged me to pursue it myself. I also was a teaching assistant in undergrad for three years and really enjoyed the prospect of teaching math. After getting a major in math (and engineering), I substitute taught for a year before getting a masters in math education.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all grade levels of students (from 1st grade all the way into undergraduate mathematics). My speciality is in high school mathematics but can easily help students in middle and elementary school. I also can help in some areas in undergraduate like Calculus 1, 2, and differential equations.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I have enjoyed working with one student who initially did not have a positive affect about mathematics. Through just a few sessions, the student has been excelling at Algebra 1 through posing her own questions and using technology meaningfully to explore these questions. I am very proud of her.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find someone that not only has a rich background in content knowledge and teaching strategies, but also someone that strikes a good rapport. Also find a tutor that will support you with the questions you have and build off what you already know in a conceptual way rather than just teaching procedures and tricks. Math is so much more than that!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should always be supported to advocate for themselves with their teachers if they are stuck. I encourage my students to find 1-on-1 time to ask their teachers for support, whether it be working on more problems related to where they have questions, or asking for techniques or extensions for how they can improve. Think about ways that a teacher could help you but also ways that you could help yourself.
