Sarah’s Scholars
About
We’ve all needed help at one point in time. I work to provide that help while instilling a love for the content into my students. I am in the business of creating scholars. Not only does being interested in what you’re learning make the learning process more enjoyable, it makes it more effective as well! Motivation is a powerful tool when learning, and it is one that is part of the foundation of my teaching.
I have been tutoring for five years, and I currently am a student teacher, graduating this May 2019 with my B.S.ed. TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) for grades PK-12. Before discovering the field of ESL and my passion for it, my plan was to become a high school History/Social Studies teacher. I began my college career with the intent of that degree until I transferred to OSU to pursue TESOL. Before transferring, I completed 2.5 years of a History Educator’s coursework giving me a solid background in History/Social Studies education.
English, ESL/ESOL, and History/Social Studies are the topics I have have tutored in, but have some experience with Math and Science up to Grade 8.
Addiditonally, I’ve taught at an after-school enrichment center where I taught PK-6 Math and English for over two years.
I’ve helped lead and teach the ESL ministry at my church for over three years. I work with a team of four to implement strategies to reach our community, organize the classes, and design/revise curriculum.

What I enjoy the most about tutoring is helping students be able to access the world in ways they weren't before. Each new thing a student learns is a new way they can partake in the world. That's exciting! Seeing students have that "Got-it!" moment is special.
