Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Before the first call please send me a message including the following details so I can prepare:
The subject, class syllabus, age of student, current grades, areas the student is struggling.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am well educated in science, engineering, and math fields having earned a BS in Civil Engineering at Ohio State University. I graduated with "Cum Laude" distinction and was frequently consulted by my classmates to help them learn concepts.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I offer a free 30 minute initial consultation call to get acquainted, establish goals and expectations of working together, and most importantly a short preview of tutoring service.
Regular sessions are $12 for 30 minutes, with sessions typically lasting 60 to 90 minutes.
How did you get started teaching?
I have always enjoyed sharing my knowledge and experience with people. I taught my friends how to ski, I taught my younger siblings how to do math, and I taught my engineering classmates how to solve problems they were struggling with. Then one day on a whim I decided to make a side job out of tutoring STEM skills, and my growing list of happy clients are glad I took the leap.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have helped students ranging from elementary school through college level.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently returned from a 6 month trip where I circumnavigated the world twice. It was an experience of a lifetime to explore places all over the globe!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) skills are not something people are born with, nor are they easy to learn. You may struggle and fail and that is part of the process. Even I had poor STEM skills when I was just starting to learn them, and now I'm on a career path to become a Professional Engineer. Don't expect to master these skills overnight!
With guidance from a knowledgable teacher, and hard work, you can improve ANY skill, including STEM skills. I would love to help you along the way.
