Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first meeting would involve getting to meet the student, getting to know them a little, find out what they want to study, discuss the materials we will use and confirm a schedule of tutoring sessions and a few ground rules.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I had many hours of training and have used that for over 15 years in working with many students. I found that I have a true passion to teach. I estimate that I have worked with dozens of students. I have also trained over a thousand people to be volunteer ESOL and Basic Literacy Tutors.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing would be based on travel that I'd need to make. I'd like to make somewhere around $24/hour for local (Dayton Area) students and a little more when travelling more than 12 miles each way.
How did you get started teaching?
As a volunteer for an Agency called Miami Valley Literacy Council
What types of students have you worked with?
Older & younger, people born in the US and elsewhere, English language and American culture, GED level math and Citizenship Test students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Attended an ESOL students Naturalization Ceremony
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for someone with much experience and a passion to teach.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
They should think about about their goals are- what they want most to learn.
