Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Isolate what my students are struggling with then tackle them one at a time. If I notice they still have issues, I'll ask them what they are getting confused about.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a college level understanding of both math and science, calculus and physics to be precise.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Not particularly, if it's general tutoring and a student just needs minor help then $10 to $12 an hour suffice, if it's a difficult class and a student will need constant in-depth help and understanding then around $15+ an hour. Prices are negotiable.
How did you get started teaching?
In college, I tutored as a side job with my main job. I only had one student as the others never reached out or tried to join my daily open calls.
What types of students have you worked with?
College level to grade school.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I had a student who was taking College Calc AB. They seemed to do better with tutoring and only screwed up when questions had odd wording.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find out what their teaching method is and how easy they can explain concepts. A tutor who always tells you the answer may not be the best.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are they having issue with and what concepts can they not understand. Finding these can help a teacher setup a plan to help a student.
