Pamina: Essay Writing/Fiction Writing Tutor
About
Hi there!
My name is Pamina and I have been tutoring English for some time now. I graduated from Pace University with a bachelors' degree in Communications Studies. I also attended a creative writing school in New York City over the course of several years. I currently work with a tutoring organization, but also work independently. I tutor conversational German, since my family is Germanic and I have spoken the language fluently since I was a child. Furthermore, I help with resume writing as well as cover letter writing.
Regarding my services, I provide an array of English subject tutoring including essay writing, essay editing/proofreading, fiction writing, creative writing, grammar, sentence structure, phrasing within essay writing, thesis statements etc.
I tutor students grades 1-12 and college students as well. I pride myself on my patience and outgoing nature, which has proven to work well in the progression and improvement of my students' academic work.
I am flexible in regards to where we would work together; in the comfort of your home, a library, a cafe nearby or in my neighborhood. Whatever you are comfortable with doing, I am comfortable with.
Looking forward to meeting you!
Best,
Pamina (Mina)

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When meeting a new student, I first like to get to know my student; their hobbies, likes, dislikes, favorite tv show.
I then like to discuss with them their learning processes and study techniques.
We then discuss what their strengths and challenges are, and create a plan over the course of the next several tutoring sessions to reach a certain goal that we have set for the student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I attended Gotham Writers' Workshop over the course of several years to obtain professional training in creative writing instruction. I am also a graduate of Pace University, where I received a bachelors' degree in communications studies. Additionally, I have a great deal of experience regarding resume writing and cover letter writing after having been involved in the corporate world, from public relations to the medical field.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
The pricing for my lessons is as follows:
1 hour - $40
1.5 hours - $70
2 hours - $85
This is competitively priced versus other tutoring organizations.
How did you get started teaching?
I used to tutor fellow students in elementary school, through which I discovered a passion of helping others academically.
This continued into high school and university. I also have experience working with learning disabled students. My past tutoring experiences revolve around English and conversational German as well as resume/cover letter writing.
I have recent experience having worked with a large tutoring organization, however have decided to organize my own student roster, as I feel more connected to the student by doing so.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with mainstream and special education students, including grades 1-12 and college students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Several of the students I started to tutor professionally received high grades on assignments we worked on together.
Realizing their growth and understanding their learning styles truly made me feel proud of their progression.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a tutor in your area of expertise?
The advice I would give is to ensure the tutor is polite, patient, and empathetic. It is essential that the tutor wants to understand the way that YOU learn. A student has no limit in what they are capable of achieving, and it must be made clear that the tutor understands this concept.
What questions should students think through before talking to tutors about their needs?
Definitely consider your goals, challenges and strengths and write them down. It will be immensely helpful for the tutor you will be working with. It will also allow for the flow of progress to continue efficiently.
