About

At New Minds Learning Center, we develop a love for learning while striving for excellence. We work to ensure that each student retains the information that is taught by learning in a fun way. We take the various concepts taught and connect them to everyday life. This strategy develops a love and a need to read, the ability to understand and solve mathematical problems, and the ability to learn a new language. We have been in business since 1992!

We are fully online via Zoom, or face to face. We tutor all year round, including summer!

The enjoyment of the satisfaction of helping my student learn a new concept that he or she did not know before is unlike anything else! I love the look on my student's faces when they "get it!"

I love the one on one instruction. After coming out of a pandemic my 10 year old daughter
really needed a kind adult to interact with. To give her back the confidence she had before
    to speak up in person.

I like the professionalism and interpersonal skills. The pre-assessment as excellent. My son
looks forward to his lessons knowing he’ll do well regarding school examinations. Each

Absolutely fantastic tutoring. My daughter struggled with math for such a long time, its so
amazing to see her thriving. Ms Beryl was able to identify the areas where she needed
improvement and instruct us on how she should study. The results are amazing, she
actually enjoys math now. Highly recommend!!!

She is an amazing women. My daughter grades not only improved but she also learned
techniques on how to multiply, how to write and identify the importance in a passage in
which she was struggling with in school. She learned so much in tutoring that she became

    Frequently asked questions

Every student is an individual, so my policy is not to teach by age or grade, but to teach by ability.  I assess my new students with my knowledge of learning styles.  Everyone learns at different rates, but they have different learning styles of which there are seven: visually, aurally, verbally, physically, logically, socially, and solitarily.  These 7 learning styles are crucial in getting to know how a student learns.  A student may possess several learning styles, and it is up to me to assess and learn what they are so I can work with him or her to improve on the difficulty.  This is the advantage of a tutor teaching one on one, over a teacher teaching in a classroom of many students.

I have an Associate's Degree in American Sign Language, so I am able to communicate with Deaf or hard of hearing students and/or teach students who wish to learn sign language.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in English, which incorporates English Literature, phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary development, composition and reading comprehension strategies.

I have a Master's Degree in Childhood Education, which is the same as a teaching degree, and encompasses a wide range of teaching strategies, including math, science, social studies and modern learning with elementary and middle school students up to grade 7.  However, I prefer to teach only math and English/reading.

My math, ELA or American Sign Language online sessions are once a week.  Once a week is $160 per month for math and ELA, and $180 per month for ASL. Twice a week is $280 per month and three times a week is $360 per month. Payments are made monthly at the beginning of each month.  Payments are made by the 5th of each month to avoid a $20 late fee.  There are no hourly rates at New Minds Learning Center.

I got started in tutoring because I wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of office life!  I worked as a personal secretary for many years for Managers and Directors for various corporate businesses.

It was my dad that suggested teaching because I worked with my nephews and nieces successfully teaching them various math concepts, along with reading and writing at a young age.  His suggestion made sense, so I left working in a corporate environment, and decided to tutor.  I went to college and gained 3 Degrees along the way!

Over the 20 years or so that I've been tutoring, I've worked with Kindergarten, elementary and middle school students...students who are having difficulty understanding certain concepts, challenging students, and special education students.  I've worked with reluctant students, hard working students, overactive students.  I've also worked with children who attend public schools, private schools, charter schools, Catholic schools.  The satisfaction I feel when my students "get it" makes my day all the time!

Well this one is not a recent event per se, but I have fond memories of a student who I home schooled with my own children.  He was 4 grades behind.  His mother begged me to tutor him with his sister because he came from a country outside of the United States, and just wasn't doing well. I home schooled him for 2 years.  At the end of those 2 years, he graduated on time corresponding with his age and grade level.  I enjoyed home schooling him with his sister and my children so much!

I would say look for a teacher who has patience, enthusiasm, great communication, and is a fun person.  That way, you know that you will be learning from a person that encompasses a personality that you can understand from.
