About
I have been a teacher for 10 years in multiple subjects so I know how to support students in math, english, science, and study skills. I figure out what the student knows and doesn't know and build understanding based on where he or she is. I also teach study tools that will help students learn and make progress on their own without me. I have worked with students from 3rd to 10th grade, so I can make my tutoring fit most any age.
I love figuring out how each student learns. I love finding different ways to break down content and seeing what matches with each student. I love teaching tools that help students be successful by themselves. The most gratifying thing being a teacher is watching a student learn something or complete a skill on his or her own and the pride that they feel. They can only feel that pride if they feel that they did it themselves. This is what I love about tutoring.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start by speaking with the family and the student about what the learning needs are. We set a small realistic goal and I make sure the student buys into it as well. I then use the student's work (textbooks and assignments) as a resource to build the skills and understanding that they need. This way the student feels like what they are learning from me is helpful and can transfer to their learning in school. I set clear goals for sessions with the students so they can see their progress throughout the session. If needed I give a small assignment to help the student practice the skills. I report the progress to the families each week and communicate when and if the goals need to be adjusted. There is always more to learn so it is up to the family when they want to conclude the sessions and the student is ready to be independent with his or her work!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a MA Initial License in Middle School Math with additional licenses in Science and ESL. I have a Masters in Education and a Masters in School Counseling which helps me build meaningful interventions for students. I have worked as a teacher for 10 years. I am currently a Learning Specialist for students with disabilities teaching them reading, writing, math and study skills.
