About
I'm excited to help people understand how math works and that it isn't as frightening as it sometimes seems. Maybe I can help you find it beautiful!
I've been tutoring since high school and served in City Year for a year. I brought two struggling students up to grade level!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I typically ask what the student needs help with, then jump right in. We may have to back up later, but I trust my students to be honest with their needs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor's in Honors Mathematics, and my service with City Year involved training in tutoring, child development, and lesson plan development.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $15/hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I started tutoring because a classmate needed help, and I liked it enough to keep going.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students who were struggling with maintaining grade-level standards and with autism-spectrum students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
The seeds I planted in pots to transplant outdoors when it warms have started coming up. It's delightful to see life springing up and promising future growth.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Try several teachers. Some may not teach in the way you learn best, but the more different explanations you hear, the more likely you are to understand.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
A student should consider whether they have a firm grasp on the prerequisits of the subject they are trying to master -- sometime a thing seems difficult because you don't understand the basics it's building on.
Students should also consider what they know they like in a teacher -- it might help them find another teacher they like.
