About

Hi, I'm Joyce! I have been tutoring math since I was a teenager in the 1990's. I love being a math tutor. My students describe my lessons as engaging, clear and understandable. I love the "ah-ha, I get it now!" moments. I love seeing my students feel positive about math.

I have a Bachor's in Mathematics and a Master's in Mathematics Education.

My tutoring experiences have been from Kindergarten through College. My expertise lies in Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, Trigonometry and Precalculus.

I have tutored thousands of students over the past 20+ years. Every tutoring session has been a success story. Every tutoring plan with goals has been achieved.

Let's discuss your needs for a math tutor and come up with a tutoring plan designed for your child's success.

    Frequently asked questions

I like to ask questions about a math problem to learn about a student's processing time and vocabulary. Then I can know how much instruction vs practice will be needed.

I hold a Bachelor's in Mathematics and a Master's in Mathematics Education, both from Iona College in New Rochelle, NY.

I charge $100 for one hour of online tutoring. I offer a bundle where you can purchase 9 lessons and the 10th one will be free of charge. I charge $150 for one hour of in person tutoring.
I started babysitting when I was 12 years old. The parents often asked if I could help their children with their homework, and I would. I recognized that I loved helping with math more than any other subject. By 16 years old, I was asked to help with math homework and studying but wasn't needed for babysitting any longer. I have been tutoring math ever since.
I have worked with all types of students and all types of learning styles. Some of my students have learning disabilities, such as, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia and ASD. I also tutor honors level students.
Choosing the right tutor is important. Some important questions would include, "will the instruction be tailored to my child's strengths, weaknesses and goals?", "what qualifications do I need the tutor to have?", "what is the tutor's track record?", "can the tutor provide testimonials?", is this tutor in my price range?", does this tutor have availability to fit within my schedule?"
I believe a student's experience with a math tutor is best when the student knows exactly what they need help with. For example, a student may say, "I want to get an A on my next math exam". It would then be most effective if the student can identify what topics within the unit of study that need reteaching by the tutor.
