About
I've tutored many students over the last decade in all work relating to reading, writing, SAT reading and writing, TACHS preparation, AP English, ESL (English as a second language/new language) and college essay and application writing. My students have improved their grades, gotten many impressive acceptances and scholarships to high schools and colleges, and have expressed that I make reading, writing, and test taking more doable for them. I love working with students and watching them improve. Every single student I've ever tutored has increased their SAT score or grades at school.
I also do one time sessions to help with, or proofread, essays for English, SS, AP Literature and Composition, and AP Literature and Language.
I typically take on five studenst at one time so that the same routine time slots are available. I also offer discounts for 2-4 students hosted at the same house, which typically works best for SAT or other standarized test preparation. Otheriwse, 1 to 1 tutoring works best for all other tutoring needs.
I've also worked with students from age 4 through college, and I've had 12 years experience teaching ESL/ENL students from many other countries.
I love watching my students have that "lightbulb" moment when they realize that reading, writing, or the SAT is doable for them and that they can improve and succeed. I've worked with honors level, general education, special needs, and English Language Learners, and they are all capable of growth. I get to know each student, and then I find the access point for each type of learner and customize my lessons for them.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
If it's test prep, I typically assess the student's strengths and weaknesses. I also teach test taking strategies and time management strategies. For SAT prep, I bring all materials and customize all lessons. If it's general reading or writing help, I do a combination of the school assignments and my own strategies integrated. I also typically give homework for test prep. It all comes down to getting to know each learner.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA double major in Literature and Secondary Ed from Marist College, a MA in Literature from CUNY Queens, and 30 credits above my masters degree in assorted educational trainings and proficiencies including ESL teaching credits, behavioral management, special education, curriculum writing, and more. I've been an ELA teacher for 10 years total, and across those ten years I've worked as a 7th and 6th grade English teacher for five years, as the 7th grade Model Teacher for four and the 6th grade Model teacher for 2. I have taught every cohort of students: general education, ESL (beginner up to proficient in English), and special education.
I have also privately tutored for 10 years. I've worked with pre-K students up to college level students. I've worked with literacy and reading tutoring for the younger grades, general schoolwork help, custom reading and writing tutoring, SHSAT, SAT, SAT 2, and college admissions appilcations/essays.
