Tranchina Tutoring
About
I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Southern California in May 2020. I am young and fresh out of school myself so I am well versed in maintainign success in formalized education. I can relate to my students and do not give the sense of being a boring or scary scholar who does not "get it." I totally get it, and just want to help my students succeed academically. I personalize my lesson plans to students' individual needs. I get to know a student first instead of assuming I know their situation.
I love getting to know a student and seeing their own pride when they overcome a struggle. Often, students are pressured into tutoring by a guardian or a teacher and they go into it begrudgingly. However, when they see their own progress that they make, there is a new sense of confidence in the student when they realize how smart and able they can be.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I talk to the student and, if they prefer, also their parent or guardian to find out what their goals are. I review the student's previous work and course material. Then, I tailor the lesson plan to the student. I go over what I am doing with the student's parent or guardian to always keep them in the loop. If anything is not working, I am more than willing to change my plan.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated from the University of Southern California Magna Cum Laude. While at USC I was trained by the organization JEP to tutor children in inner city schools in Los Angeles.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I only charge $20 an hour since I am a recent college graduate.
How did you get started teaching?
I have been tutoring my peers and students younger than me since I was in high school and have mainted this through college. In high school, I tutored a family of three elementary children privately. In college, I tutored middle school and high school students in inner city schools in Los Angeles in addition to leading study groups with my own peers.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types: elementary school, middle school, high school, college, some who their first language is not English, some with learning disabilities.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure they understand you, your specific needs, and do not generalize the lesson plan for all their clients.
