I am currently a communications major with a journalism minor at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, and I began tutoring in writing last year. Additionally, I'm an experienced newspaper editor.

I will ask to see the prompt (if there is one) and talk to the student about where they are in the writing process, also asking what areas they feel require the most improvement in their assignment. From there, I address each of the concerns in turn, also pointing out any other issues I might spot along the way.
I currently work as a tutor at the Writing Center at St. Joseph's University. One requirement for being hired involved taking an intensive seminar class that trained its students to become writing tutors, including reading scholarly pieces on the subject and presenting ideas for improving the tutor quality in the Writing Center as a final project.
