Making The Grade Tutoring
About
I pride myself on my ability to connect with students on an individual level. I work closely with my students and their families to find the right approach that best fits each student's individual needs, strengths, and abilities. While I primarily focus on reading comprehension and writing skills, I am able to provide tutoring support in most academic areas. From elementary school through high school, math, science, study skills, test prep or homework help, I have experience in all areas and can provide the support you need!
I enjoy working with all types of students and building a strong relationship with each student and his/her family. I love watching my students grow and make progress throughout the year, especially when they finally "get it." That moment of success is truly priceless.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My intake process is individualized. I always start by speaking with a student and, when appropriate, his or her family, in order to get a sense of the whole picture: who the student is, where he/she struggles and excels, how they learn best, etc. Depending on what the student needs, I might begin with different baseline assessments (writing skills, reading comprehension, basic math skills, etc), or inventories to evaluate learning style, study skills, or even mindset. From there, I work with each student and their family to develop a plan of action.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have 11 years of classroom teaching experience with students grades 7-12. I've worked with students of varying ability levels, from performing well below grade level, to students completing advanced coursework. I've been tutoring since I started working on my first Master's Degree in education. My primary focus was initially SAT and ACT preparation, then moved to individual subject tutoring, homework help, and study skills.
