Hello! My name is Adam, I'm an Eagle Scout, a multi-instrumentalist, and a Catholic Christian. I was a Cornell Engineering student for two years because I loved math and disliked writing, but then switched into Religious Studies because it turned out I liked college reading and writing more than college math!
It is very important to me that students learn to have a sense of victory when they learn, whether they're struggling and need to learn victory, or whether they are already successful and need to channel their potential- this is as true for math, where there are correct answers, as it is in writing, where there are more complete answers.
Though I have hourly rates for my math and writing tutoring, financial accessibility is important- therefore, some of my students are taught free of charge, because they do the work that they get assigned to do.
I like teaching for two things- first, the "aha" moments, and second, when students ask really good questions that push the material beyond what it expected them to do. When a math student can draw the conclusion and understand what comes next. When a reading student wants to read more because reading is fun. When students come prepared because they want to go beyond and learn more, meaning I can take them there.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First things first, we work on what you need to get done. I’m very good at using my questions to guide your thinking to the answer without just telling you, and I’ll teach you how to guide yourself.
In between things we work on, we can talk a bit about things and just get to know each other and make friends. I don’t force friendships, but I’m always happy when they happen.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a recent graduate of Cornell University, and I am currently in a monthlong substitute teaching position for an algebra teacher. Other times, I have substitute taught for social studies classes, from honors to remedial.
I've volunteered tutoring high school students in math, I directed a summer camp for 60 campers aged 8-13 and taught hundreds of teenagers at a Boy Scout camp for 5 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My prime motivations are:
1- to help students learn, succeed, and grow
2- to become a better teacher and a better person.
That said, I do not charge for my tutoring IF the student is willing to learn and does the work I ask.
It's no fun to teach a student who doesn't want to learn, succeed, or grow, but I do my best to make the material interesting. There is no reason to be bored of anything.
How did you get started teaching?
My dad is a teacher and subconsciously taught me how to teach others, and I began teaching at summer camps in 2014.
What types of students have you worked with?
Almost all ages, running a science camp for students aged 8-14 and running a nature center at a boy scout camp for ages 13-17.
