Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I would get to know a bit about the student - how old they are, what they like and dislike as well as their feelings about school. Then, I would provide a basic reading and writing assessment to see what level the child is currently on as well as what areas I can be most helpful in.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am licensed by New York State to teach grades 1-6, English to speakers of other languages as well as Social Studies to grades 7-12.

How did you get started teaching?
I have wanted to be a teacher since I knew what a teacher was. I have always loved learning and loved going to school. Growing up I throroughly enjoyed helping my friends with their school work. I have always been a teacher at heart.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students ranging from the ages of 4-12. My students at work are English Language Learners. As a result, I have become very knowledgable on how to assist struggling readers and writers whether they speak another language or not. I have also worked with many students who have learning disabilites although that is not my area of expertise.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I had a student this year who was extremely shy. She came to America in the middle of last school year and was not really speaking much English yet. With my very limited Spanish skills, I was able to coax her into participating in class in whichever language she felt most comfortable. She began the year speaking in Spanish and slowly began to speak more and more English. Her reading level skyrocketed and she began to write extensively. Best of all, she became more confident in herself and that allowed her to take risks in her education and become successful.
