About
I am an individual dedicated to assisting students in achieving their academic goals. To me this does not simply mean understanding the material and completing assignments, but working with students to identify their own motivations in their fields of study. I will work with students to identify long term goals as well as short term techniques they can utilize to adhere to a schedule and improve their performance. By identifying their internal motivations rather than focusing on external consequences, I believe students will increase their dedication and engagement in their academic work.
I have years of experience in the field of social work, and have also worked as an independent musician, narrator, and audiobook producer. I hold a bachelor's degree from Skidmore College in Religious Studies and Philosophy, and a master's degree in Psychology from Pace University, as well as various certificates and trainings. I am CPR and first aid certified.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My background is in Motivational Interviewing, a technique where we try to build a student's internal motivation to achieve his or her goals. In the first session, I like to sit with the student (and parent if applicable) and identify the larger goal, then work with the student to find the steps needed to attain it. I find that having a plan written down helps avoid confusion and argument. Plus, giving the student a role in planning their tutoring helps them to feel a sense of ownership over the work, which generally improves results.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a master's degree in psychology, and have worked for many years in the social work field assisting individuals with special needs. In more recent years, I have worked as a substitute teacher. I am also an accomplished musician and offer beginner and intermediate guitar lessons.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Standard pricing system for academic lessons is $75/hour, but this is on a sliding scale based on individuals needs and resources. I cannot promise flexibility in my rates in all cases. Guitar/music lessons are $50 for 45 minutes.
