The lessons that I offer during tutoring sessions have been developed with the help of college professors. This ensures that the information you will be learning is accurate and up to date. I recognize that all students learn differently, so I have developed a technique that allows me to uniquely adapt my teaching style to the student over the first session. In subsequent meetings, my students have found that they not only develop a greater understanding of the subject-area, but that they do so confidently and feeling more positive.
I have a B.S. is physics and music from Union College, and have been tutoring many students for many since since high school.
I enjoy working with children and passing down the knowledge that I have attained throughout my academic life. I have been in their shoes and understand how difficult certain courses or even individual topics can become. I am in the unique position to guide my students towards improved understanding of ideas conceptually, and then apply these ideas practically.

During the first session, I try to explain the various concepts through different approaches. From there, I am able to assess which option fits the student best, and adapt future sessions around that technique. For example, one approach would be to explain the concept to the student first, then apply that concept using practice questions for reinforcement. Amother approach would be to pick a simple practice question that encompasses a topic very well, and then work with the student to figure out how this question relates back to the overall topic being covered. I have several other approaches that I will also utilize before narrowing in on the one that best suits the individual student.
Of course, these are simply my templates that can be further crafted to fit the needs of any student, because learning styles may change from one course to the next, and even one topic to the next within an individual course.

Pick a tutor who you can relate to outside of the academic setting. This will allow you to feel more comfortable with the tutor in important aspects of the session. For example, you may feel more comfortable asking them questions, asking them to explain a concept in a different way, or even simply expressing that you do not understand something. The student-tutor relationship is the foundation that allows the student to be successful in his or her studies.
