What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Identify strengths & weaknesses in reading & writing; determine what student wants to get out of the process; get to know student's interests
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have thirteen years as an English educator.
How did you get started teaching?
I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary English Education in 2004 in Indiana. I began teaching in Las Vegas in 2005. I graduated with a Master's in Education for Curriculum & Instruction in 2009. I quit teaching in 2018 to stay at home with my child.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all types of students. I have taught everything from English as a Second Language, students with learning disabilities, standard required English courses 9-12 grade, and Advanced Placement literature.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
It is important to find someone who works with your schedule and your individual needs.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Where do I want to improve? What do I find challenging? How do I learn best? What strategies do I already use & what would I like to learn?
