About

Hi there! My name is Sabrina and I'm a 20 year college student, studying biology at the College of Southern Nevada. I've been tutoring since high school, in multiple subjects, as well as being a student tutor for a freshman algebra class in my senior year of high school. I am a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, a Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War award recipient, and a Western Undergraduate Exchange two-time recipient. I enjoy math and science, but also tutor in English, reading, and test prep.

Frequently asked questions

When working with new students, I like to take a look at their past work and really understand what they need. I think it's important to understand the problem they're having, rather than jumping into it without really knowing the student's work. I also like to understand the student as a person, what they like, how they learn best, etc. It's hard to work with a student if you don't know how to help them understand or what's the best situation for them.

I tutored students, as a volunteer tutor, in high school. In addition to that, I was a student assistant in a freshman math class. In class, I often helped teach the class as a whole, but also worked with small groups of students or an individual student if needed. I currently have one client, who I tutor 3-5 times a week.

Pricing varies, but it will always be between $15-$25/hr. It varies based on if there's more than one student in the family needing to be tutored, how many times a week, and how many subjects they need tutoring for.

In high school, I often worked with at-risk students in remedial classes who were behind or needed help often and in more than one subject. However, I've also worked with students who just needed tutoring one time or just needed help understanding things here and there.

Make sure you're comfortable and realize that it's okay to meet with a tutor once and decide they're not for you. You shouldn't have to settle, be bored during tutoring, or feel like they're not for you. My parents had a private tutor for my siblings and I for 5 years and all three of us children were very involved in choosing. We met with a few different tutors and did one session with them, until we found the right fit. It's okay to "shop" around.
