About
I am a licensed math teacher who has been teaching for the past 23 years and am currently serving as an assistant principal supervising the math department. I have taught elementary, middle school and have tutored high school math through Algebra II. I am fun and easy to understand! I help build confidence and mastery so students grow stronger and may no longer need a tutor.I really enjoy seeing the growth in a struggling student. I understand how difficult building confidence can be and I know all the secrets to success. In my classroom, I often can take struggling students and give them the keys to success, so much so that they are moved into accelerated math classes and continue with success. I love math and really enjoy helping students enjoy it as well. I currently work with students all the way from second grade through seniors in Algebra 2.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I will work on anything that the student needs - I really like to start with communication with the current teacher for younger students so their grade and classwork improves as soon as possible. For older students, they typically bring work from class to work on and I can generate extra problems of the same type if needed.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a teacher for 18 years for grades 1 through 8 and have been a math teacher in middle school for the past 8 years. I also have been tutoring high school students in Geometry and Algebra 2 for the past 4 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
All middle through high school students would be $50 per hour. All elementary students would be $30 per hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I began tutoring on the side when I moved up the middle school to teach math. Mainly because the need for extra help was so great. I have room in my schedule for additional students now that I have had my classes for a few years. The majority of my students get enough additional support from me for free if needed. Also, my high school students are close to gradutation, so I find myself with more free time to help others. I really enjoy doing this!
What types of students have you worked with?
All grade levels through high school up to Algebra 2.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My second grade student, who lives in my neighborhood, said to me that he wanted to keep tutoring over Christmas break and also over the summer because he loves coming so much!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure you are comfortable with them. That you have fun and understand them. It's really difficult to learn from someone if you are afraid to ask them questions.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should always be comfortable asking any questions of a teacher. It is a teacher's job to support their learning in any way. I realize not every math teacher takes this approach, which is what makes me really good at my job. My goal is to help students build skills, confidence, but also to see math education in a different way. Asking questions and getting problems wrong are the MOST useful things to do in math to grow. We can't be afraid of them.
