About
I offer multiple-subject tutoring for 4th graders to college students, military entry, and adults. My style is particularly beneficial to the homeschooler or internet Common Core student. I work with each student's attention span, learning style, and interests to keep sessions lighthearted and productive. I believe in creative and positive reinforcement. Tutoring/teaching is in my blood, as my mother was a college professor, my grandmother was one of the first women to achieve a Master's degree, and every great- and great-great- down the line was involved in teaching. I love to teach almost as much as I love to learn!
I began teaching others when I was a gradeschooler who "got it" and offered to help my fellow students catch up. My strength was finding different ways of looking at a subject than the typically singular way the teacher offered. Through my entire educational career, I have both worked and volunteered as a tutor in everything from taxes to American Sign Language. As a workshop leader, I have travelled all over the US teaching leadership, critical thinking, mentoring, and even MS Office. As an improv actor, I bring humor and an ability to think on my feet. Kids respond positively to someone with energy that matches theirs.
Each student is so unique, I end up learning right along with them. I love helping my students exceed their goals and giving them incentive to learning more. The best part is celebrating their achievements with them and their parents. I am always joyful and humbled to, even in such a small way, become part of the family.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first one-hour session, we get to know each other and I tune in to the students' learning style. Hopefully the parent(s) will be involved so that I can find out if what is holding the student back is learning style, lack of interest, mismanaging time, or other factors.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA in communications with a minor in education. I began tutoring one-on-one in 2004 and have done it off and on ever since. I am a professional trainer/speaker who develops and delivers curriculum for adults.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
1 hour - $45
12-session package - $480
How did you get started teaching?
I helped my mother homeschool my baby brother and sister, then began tutoring fellow students while in college myself.
What types of students have you worked with?
Mostly high school and junior high/middle school. Some college students.
