Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I get to know a student and then try to make math relevant to them.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
BA in Mathematics. Licensed educator.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching in the united states navy. I earned several awards while on instructor duty. Later, I was an instructor at ITT technical Institute. My first experience teaching children was at a small private school. I taught all subjects but math was my favorite. I went back to school and earned my education degree and now I teach 7th grade math in Las Vegas.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from the pacific islands to the Congo. I can teach in Spanish as well as English. I am willing to teach spanish speakers to use English or they can suceed in Math keeping their Spanish language skills.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
When I see students "get it", and improve. I am seeing several of my students make progress right now.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
You need a math teacher who can relate math to you. Especially, if you are struggling. You don't need a teacher who makes it harder by getting too abstract. You want concrete, culturally relevant instruction.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should be prepared to accept the reality that no matter how good the teacher is math is a skill that requires practice. Practice means time and work. Just as a sport cannot be learned and mastered in one session mathematical skills take time and persistence to develop. A student has to be willing to accept this challenge.
