About
I have 17 years of experience teaching and tutoring students in math both in-person and online, and I have a passion for helping students to be successful. For five years, I was a co-host of the Homework Hotline call-in television show that gave students an opportunity to get homework help.
Students tell me that I am able to help students feel more comfortable with math. I am familiar with common misconcecptions, and I am able to quickly clear them up for students.
I enjoy helping students to be successful and to realiize that they really are capable of understanding math concepts and skills.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to ask questions to ascertain a student's greatest area of need and what they are currently working on. I then start to work with the student on current concepts and skills in their math courses.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a math teracher for 17 years, and I have always sought out professional development to keep myself current. I also was hired to be a co-host on the "Homework Hotline:" telelvision show which provided math homework help for students in a call-in format. I did that for five years. I taught in a traditional brick-and-mortar setting for 9 years, and in an online setting for 7 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I have taught math and tutored my own students for many years, but charging for my tutoring is new to me. I will need to find out how much I should charge for my services.,
How did you get started teaching?
I always knew that I wanted to be a math teacher, but went back to college later in life to get my teaching degree and license. I had excellent math teachcers from kindergarten through college, and I like to help students to realize that they can be successful in math.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked mostly with middle school students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, and I have taught Algebra I to both middle school and high school students. My students have come from diverse backgrounds, and I enjoy working with all students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
At the beginning of last year, I had several students who were struggling in their math courses. I set up weekly sessions during which I worked with each student individually. Each of those students became successful and passed their math courses even though they originally thought they could not.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I always recommend that students find a teacher with whom they are comfortable. Teachers have different teaching styles, and a student needs a teacher whose style works for them.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1) What exactly do I need help with?
2) How do I learn best?
3) What topics in math have I been successful with in the past, and which topics have I struggled with?
