About

I put myself through school and raised two small children on my own while tutoring full time in math, science, and test preparation. Within my first 6 months of tutoring, I became so booked up through referrals that I was able to support myself financially on tutoring income alone.

To date, I've been tutoring for almost 7 years. Currently, I'm a licensed high school math teacher at a charter school in North Las Vegas. I've been teaching high school math for 2 years now, going into my third year this school year.

I love teaching. I didn't realize it was my passion until I started tutoring. In fact, my career as a private tutor was what motivated me to return to school to finish my B.A. in Mathematics and obtain my teaching license. The two aspects of my career that I enjoy most is the connections I make with the kids I've helped and the ability to utilize my innate and progressive talents as an educator to help my students achieve a deeper conceptual understanding of the math concepts they're taught in school.

Frequently asked questions

I like to first assess my new student's prior knowledge in the subject I'm tutoring in. Much of a student's struggle in math will lie in the fact that they are not proficient in the foundational skills or prior concepts required to be successful at  learning the current concept being taught.

I'm currently a licensed, high school math teacher at a charter school in North Las Vegas. I'm entering my third year of teaching.

Prior to teaching, I tutored privately, full time in all middle and high school math subjects, chemistry, and test preparation including the ACT, SAT, ASVAB, and college entrance exams, as well as college algebra.

I still tutor part time in addition to teaching.

I typically charge between $25 and $35 per hour, depending on the distance I need to travel to the student and the frequency of their appointments. I'm willing to reduce my rate to $25 for clients who choose to pay upfront for multiple sessions.

Tutoring actually motivated me to return to school to obtain my degree in math. I used to do accounting in my early 20s. The economy tanked and my company laid off 16,000 workers including myself. Struggling to find work while raising two kids, I decided to tutor in math for extra money and found myself earning twice as much as a private tutor than I did as an accounting assistant. It was during my time as a private tutor that I realized I loved teaching and decided to return to school and obtain my teaching license.

I've worked with students of all academic levels and learning proficiencies. I'm experienced with working with students with learning disabilities including ADHD and students who are severely behind in math.

Choose a teacher that you will not only feel comfortable with but one whose personality vibes well with yours. One thing I've discovered in my 7 years of tutoring and 2 years of teaching is that a good teacher-student relationship is extremely important for the learning process. If you don't like being around your teacher, you're less likely to be open to learning from them. I've always related well with the age group I teach. Teens are easily bored so it's important that I'm able to keep them engaged while teaching a subject that a majority of their age group despises.
