ALL English Tutoring
About
I have a PhD in American Literature, but I have experience in both British and American literature. I also teach classes on basic and advanced composition and essay writing. I listen to my students and work to tailor my tutoring to their interests and needs.
My students frequently comment on my willingness to help and my ability to make literary and composition assignments relatable and easy to understand.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I want to get to know my students so I can tailor an approach that works best for them. Next, I want to know what aspects of English they need the most help with. Finally, we can establish a plan and a schedule to best help the student reach their goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelor's degree in English, a master's degree in Literature, and am a doctoral candidate in American literature. I have 5 years experience teaching both freshman-level composition classes and mid-level literature classes.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I offer a flat rate of $30 an hour
How did you get started teaching?
I worked in other fields for many years and then decided teaching had always been my true passion. I decided to go back to school and finish my degrees. I began teaching while working on my PhD.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with college aged students of all reading and writing levels as well as students for whom English is not their first language. I have worked with students from a wide variety of backgrounds from first-generation college students to students who attended private college prep schools. I understand that one approach doesnt work for every student and I work hard to find strategies to make all my students succeed.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
One of my tutoring students was working on an argumentative essay for a class. He was afraid to give his actual opinion because he didnt know if his opinion was valid. I explained his opinion was valid and backed up by facts. We worked together to craft an essay that made his case in the best way possible. He later told me he has much more confidence in not only his writing skills but in his ability to express his opinion and stand up for what he believes in.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
First, look for someone who has the credentials and the experience to offer you the most help. But, just as importantly, find someone who you "click" with. You should try to find someone who works to help you in a way that works best for you. Don't look for a one size fits all approach, find someone whose teaching style fits with your learning style.
