About
Hi! My name is Jenna and I’m a graduate student at NYU. By working hands on with my clients in both grammar, syntax, and diction, markable improvement occurs in just a few sessions. Further, while I market myself as an essay tutor because that’s my particular skill set, I’m also a reliable teacher in other subjects (particularly math up to precalculus, American and European history, some science, and I speak Spanish).
I’ve always been passionate about teaching and tutoring because I believe that academia is fun, and only becomes tedious when there isn’t a proper foundation. My goal is to provide that foundation.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Generally the first session I try to do diagnostic and figure out what the student needs in later sessions. After that, I do targeted work in what I think each student specifically needs or requests.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have three years of classroom experience teaching debate. Because of that, I’m particularly fond of teaching argumentative essay writing but am a great editor as well.
How did you get started teaching?
I began as a summer debate coach at the Pegasus School and quickly fell in love with helping students grow. I decided to start tutoring professionally in 2019 when I moved to New York, but I've been formally tutoring since 2016.
What types of students have you worked with?
I’ve worked primarily with middle and high schoolers, but have taught reading to children as young as three!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
As a pre-law student, I do mock trial and recently competed at the National Championship Tournament, where our two teams placed around 27th and 41st in the nation (out of around 750). If you need someone to walk you through what exactly hearsay is, or exactly how to present an opening statement, I'm your girl.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Whether or not they have classroom experience is a big plus, especially for English tutoring. As someone who has taught and graded, I understand what students need to do not just to become a better writer overall, but specifically for grade improvement. For AP/ACT/SAT tutoring, recency of the testing is huge: the test has changed rapidly over the last few years, and having someone you can be confident is up to date on the exam (because they took it themselves) is certainly paramount.
