Patient, Creative and Effective Tutor/Instructor for All Subjects, All Ages, All Cities
Dear Parents and Students,
May I be a personal tutor for you or your child? I have been successfully tutoring for over 12 years. I have great references and the highest ratings in this region. I graduated with honors, Summa Cum Laude from Case Western Reserve University, where I earned a Provost Academic Scholarship for my excellent test scores and made the Dean's List.
In addition to teaching for public schools, I currently teach 20 private sessions each week, Kindergarten through 12th grade, as well as college students and business professionals. I have also served on the faculty at Cuyahoga Community College.
I am patient, friendly and many students tell me that I explain concepts more effectively than their teachers. I am available weekdays or weekends, days or nights, throughout the entire year. I would be happy to answer any questions you might have regarding my experience and teaching methods. While it should go without saying, I have a clean background that has been verified by the FBI and BCI. I appreciate your time and consideration and look forward to working with you!
Thank you,
Matthew J. Horwich

Qualifications
I graduated from Case Western Reserve University in 1998. As a Provost Scholar, I earned a 50% tuition discount based on my test scores. I began tutoring math when I was in sixth grade, while in my my middle school's High Academic Potential Program. I have had my own private tutoring business, Matthew J. Horwich LLC, for over twelve years. Prior to Lessons.com, I had partnered with several other prestigious online education companies. Locally, I have worked with students and parents from several of the top college preparatory schools, as well as partnered with their guidance counselors and teachers. Some of the more well-known schools include Gilmour Academy, Hawken School, University School and St. Ignatius.
While past achievements of former pupils are not an indicator of how well a new student will do, this is my Wall of Fame:
Top Five ACT scores:
34 Solon High School - Joshua W.
33 Beachwood High School - Spencer S.
33 Copley High School - Benjamin D.
33 Westlake High School - Avery B.

I enjoy helping people succeed in their educational endeavors.

Matt was very helpful with setting up my format for my research paper. He shared a lot of valuable information with me that could be used in the future while writing my essays and papers. Matt is very patient and very understanding to my situation. Thanks for all your help!
Matt is wonderful. He is tutoring both of my elementary school children and they really like him a lot. He takes his time with the children and gives them both his full attention. As a working single mother, my schedule can be hectic. Matt is very flexible with his schedule and very accommodating with changes in my plans week to week and I truly appreciate that! I am excited to see how the kids will do this next grading period with Matt helping them, because I already see a little more confidence in their approach to schoolwork. I highly recommend Matt as a tutor, he's professional and a pleasure to work with.
I did 2 sessions with Matt while I was home in preparation for my GMAT, which is in 3 weeks. We focused on the quantitative section, which was the weak spot on my first test. Matt’s familiarity with the GMAT (both the Verbal and Math section) was evident in the first few minutes of sitting down with him. Probably even more important, given my time constraint, was Matt’s ability to quickly identify my specific problem areas (integer / geometric properties & time management on data sufficiency problems) and come up with a game plan to improve them. Matt’s teaching style helped solidify key concepts by having me walk him through my thinking on problems and correcting me only when I veered off path. This approach worked for me. After the second session, I took a practice test and my math score improved substantially. I would recommend Matt to anyone who’s serious about boosting their GMAT score.
I am a junior and I had a really bad ACT score that I needed to improve significantly. Matt came and helped me as soon as I contacted him. Unlike other tutors, Matt took me seriously and clearly understood I wanted help with my ACT score. Matt was very patient with me and treated me like a teacher would treat his or her student. I take the ACT tomorrow and unlike the first time I took it, I'm not nervous at all. I'm very confident Matt's techniques helped me and I suggest anyone who is looking for ACT help to contact Matt.
In addition to my personal strategies, I customize my tutoring to each student's individual needs, based upon feedback from him or her, and/or parent(s).
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Case Western Reserve University where I was a Provost Scholar.
I began tutoring part-time over twenty years ago, and I now teach full-time.
I have worked with students:
as young as five years old in pre-school
elementary school
junior high and high school
undergraduate students
master's students and doctoral candidates
professional company employees
retired adults interested in learning new skills
I am very proud of my student who was an *Eighth* grader that took the ACT. He scored a 24 his first try. After just one summer of tutoring, he shot up to a 28, including a jump of 12 points in English.
