About

Because I have worked with hundreds of middle school math students, I know where they get stuck. I can "unstuck" them! Math is not evil -- I can prove it to you!

I love "lighting the lightbulb"! That moment where a student goes, "Oh!, I get this!" Love it!

Mrs. Peters was probably one of the best tutors Ive had. As someone who struggled with math growing up, she helped me understand Algebra. She takes her time and is patient. Shes also a great listener and breaks down everything.

    Frequently asked questions

To begin, I would review what the student is currently working on.  Depending on how that goes, I would then reteach weak concepts, as needed.

    I taught middle school math -- grades 6 through 8 -- for 18 years.

I charge $30 per hour.  Depending on your circumstances, this may be negotiable.

I will never charge you for the first session.

I graduated from college with a business degree; however, my husband and I moved overseas almost immediately after I graduated.  We spent 10 years living in a variety of countries.  Along the way, I began substitute teaching to keep myself busy.  Eventually, I decided to attend a graduate program to get my teaching certification.

Most of my teaching has been in school districts where families are not econoically affluent and where the student body is very diverse.

My favorite events involve my students realizing that they CAN do it and enjoying that feeling.  It doesn't take a lot of work to start to understand something and it feels MUCH better than not being able to understand it!

Use the first, free session to see if you like the tutor.  If you're not sure, try another session or two.  If you and the tutor don't "click", you probably won't be able to develop a successful working relationship.

To be honest, I think it would be easier for an experienced tutor to figure out what a student's needs are.  If the student knows what they need, they probably don't need help!
