About this tutor

My teaching partners and I have been teaching math, music, computer programming, physics, biology, English, and Spanish for seven years, giving private and group lessons to students ranging from toddlers to college kids. We're flexible and adapt to individual student needs, drawing from varied teaching experiences and approaches across all subjects.

I love working with people and helping them to achieve their goals. When I help somebody put in the work to learn a concept and they have that moment of true, intuitive understanding, it is intensely rewarding. And when a student works at math or coding or piano enough that it becomes not just a field of study but an innate skill and passion, teaching becomes the most fulfilling activity I can imagine.

Aaron was very flexible with his time and very understanding of any question(s) I had. Couldn't thank him enough for all the help I received during his tutoring sessions. Highly recommend him!

Aaron has been tutoring my two boys —in coding and in math for the past several months. Honestly I can’t say enough about how wonderful our experience has been. Aaron’s care and engagement with my children has been phenomenal. Really beyond expectation. They absolutely love working with him. He sparked an interest in coding and they are excelling in math. Things that used to be “work” are now engaging and fun. He’s been a real bright spot in a less than stellar year. Beyond his work with my children ... he’s been an absolute delight to deal with. He’s flexible, diligent, communicative and so wonderfully kind. A real role model for children. I was really skeptical about searching / finding someone online to take on this responsibility and bring into our fold but needed a solution with covid / virtual school. I’m so happy I did. All so pleased. Clearly highly recommended (and we are picky!). Thank you Aaron. Our Monday’s and Thursday’s with you have made 2020 brighter and lighter. Grateful for that.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

Always be friendly, positive, and open. Focus on identifying the student's strengths, weaknesses, and learning style to make the best teaching plan moving forward.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have seven years of one-on-one and group tutoring experience, teaching toddlers through college students. I teach elementary through high school math and physics, computer science and game programming, classical and popular piano, and English reading and writing. Our other two teachers teach these subjects as well as SAT prep, math up to multivariable calculus, biology, Spanish, violin, and viola.

How did you get started teaching?

My mom used to be an elementary school teacher, and she loves teaching so much she decided to tutor piano and yoga after retiring. In 2013 she encouraged me to try tutoring piano, which I've been playing since I was 3, and since then I've been teaching multiple subjects to local students.

What types of students have you worked with?

We've taught students of many different backgrounds and ages, both those new or struggling in the subject to those who are already excelling.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I recently played piano at the cocktail hour of a wedding along with a violinist. Jamming with other musicians is already one of my favorite things to do but the upbeat atmosphere of the wedding made this occassion especially fun. I love exploring theory and improvisation with my music students, since making your own music is in my opinion the most fun part about being a musician.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Make sure the teacher fits your style. Try out a lesson and see if their personality works with yours, if you feel like you can talk and learn comfortably, and if they are flexible and able to fulfill your learning needs. In my experience, having a supportive and compatible teacher and environment might matter even more than the material.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

What do you want out of this learning experience? You need to feel comfortable to learn, and the teacher should adapt to the student's needs. Lay out anything you have in mind about the material and the learning process. Then you and your teacher can work together to have you learn in the most productive way possible.
