About

Tutoria Prep was founded in 2018 by a Cornell-trained analytics professional and a Yale Ph.D. in Chemistry with the goal of providing thoughtful, highly personalized academic mentorship to students.

Unlike large tutoring marketplaces, Tutoria Prep is a small, founder-led academic practice. Students work directly with experienced educators and practitioners who are deeply invested in their progress and development. This allows us to provide a level of personalization, continuity, and care that is difficult to achieve in larger tutoring organizations.

Our approach goes beyond helping students complete assignments or prepare for exams. We focus on strengthening conceptual understanding, developing disciplined study habits, and building the confidence students need to succeed in challenging academic environments.

We work with middle school, high school, and college students across subjects such as mathematics, chemistry, programming, and the humanities. Many of our students are navigating rigorous coursework, preparing for competitive college admissions, or developing technical skills that will support their future careers.

At Tutoria Prep, we believe the most effective tutors are also mentors. Our goal is not only to help students succeed academically today, but to equip them with the mindset, curiosity, and problem-solving ability that will serve them throughout their education and professional lives.

    Frequently asked questions

Tutoria Prep is a small, founder-led academic tutoring practice run by two educators who care deeply about student success. Rather than operating as a large tutoring marketplace, we take a highly personalized approach with each family we work with. Our process is designed to understand each student’s goals, tailor instruction to their needs, and provide consistent mentorship throughout their academic journey.

    1. Initial Consultation

We begin with a complimentary 15-minute consultation with both the parent and student. During this conversation, we learn about the student’s academic goals, current performance, challenges, and upcoming priorities. This helps us determine how we can best support the student and outline a thoughtful path forward.

    2. Thoughtful Tutor Fit

Because Tutoria Prep is led directly by its founders, students work closely with us. We consider learning style, personality, subject matter, and communication preferences to ensure the student receives instruction that resonates with them.

    3. Academic Intake and Preparation

Before sessions begin, we gather relevant materials such as previous exams, homework assignments, syllabi, or upcoming topics. Reviewing these materials in advance allows us to prepare intentionally so that tutoring sessions are focused, efficient, and aligned with the student’s real coursework.

    4. Personalized Tutoring Sessions

Each session is tailored to the individual student. This may include reviewing homework, reinforcing challenging concepts, preparing for upcoming exams, or building stronger study strategies. Our goal is not only to improve grades but also to strengthen understanding and help students become more confident learners.

    5. Parent Updates and Progress Feedback

After sessions, we provide concise updates to parents summarizing what was covered, how the student performed, and what we plan to focus on next. This ensures families remain informed while allowing us to continuously refine the tutoring plan.

    6. Long-Term Academic Mentorship

We believe strong academic outcomes come from more than just subject mastery. As mentors, we help students develop discipline, intellectual curiosity, and confidence in their abilities. Over time, our goal is to help students become independent and capable learners who can tackle academic challenges on their own.

Because we work with a limited number of students at a time, we are able to provide each family with a high level of attention, responsiveness, and care.

I first began tutoring when a family friend learned that I had performed well on my SATs and in school. They asked if I would work with their daughter, who hoped to attend a highly selective college. What began as occasional tutoring quickly developed into a long-term mentorship. Over the course of two years, we worked closely on strengthening her reading, analytical, and problem-solving skills. She ultimately achieved a 99th percentile score on both the SAT Reading and Math sections while maintaining a perfect GPA, and was later accepted to elite universities (Yale, MIT, Columbia, Princeton, Northwestern).

That experience showed me how transformative thoughtful academic guidance can be. During college, I began working with additional students, helping them navigate challenging coursework and prepare for important exams. What I found most rewarding was not just improving grades or test scores, but building relationships with students and helping them gain confidence in their ability to learn and solve difficult problems.

Over time, most of my students came through word-of-mouth referrals from families and educators. As demand grew, it became clear that there was an opportunity to create something more intentional.

We have worked with a wide range of students across different stages of their academic and professional journeys. Our approach is always tailored to the student’s goals, whether that means building strong academic foundations, preparing for rigorous coursework, or developing advanced technical skills.

    Middle School Students

We help middle school students build strong foundations in mathematics, science, and analytical thinking while developing productive study habits that will support them throughout high school.

    High School Students

Many of our students are high school students preparing for challenging coursework, standardized exams, and competitive college admissions. We support students in subjects such as algebra, chemistry, literature, history, and computer science while helping them develop confidence and strong academic discipline.

    College Students

We work with college students navigating demanding STEM courses such as general chemistry, organic chemistry, and programming. Our focus is on strengthening conceptual understanding and helping students approach complex problems with clarity and structure.

One of the most rewarding moments each year is college decision season. It is incredibly fulfilling to see students we have worked with for years earn admission to outstanding universities.

These moments represent far more than a single acceptance letter. They reflect years of dedication from the student—challenging coursework, developing stronger problem-solving skills, building confidence in difficult subjects, and consistently pushing themselves to grow.

Watching students achieve goals they once thought were out of reach is one of the most meaningful parts of our work. When those acceptance letters arrive, we celebrate right alongside them. Those victories belong entirely to the students, but it is a privilege to have been part of their journey.

When choosing a tutor, families should look for three things: proven academic mastery, thoughtful teaching ability, and a genuine commitment to the student’s long-term development.

First, look for strong academic foundations. A tutor should have deep subject knowledge and a history of academic achievement in the subjects they teach. This ensures they can explain complex ideas clearly and guide students through challenging material.

Second, find someone who approaches tutoring as mentorship. The best tutors do more than help with assignments. They help students develop better study habits, stronger problem-solving skills, and the confidence to approach difficult material with clarity.

Third, choose someone who helps students appreciate the learning process. Academic success rarely comes from shortcuts. The most effective tutors help students learn how to engage with challenging material in a way that builds resilience and curiosity.

At Tutoria Prep, our goal is to help students not only achieve strong academic outcomes but also develop the mindset and discipline that will serve them throughout their education and careers.

Before meeting with a tutor, it can be helpful for students to reflect on a few key questions. Having clarity around these ideas allows tutoring sessions to be more focused, productive, and aligned with the student’s goals.

    1. What are my short-term and long-term academic goals?
Are you trying to improve your understanding of a specific subject, prepare for an upcoming exam, strengthen your GPA, or prepare for college-level coursework? Defining your goals helps shape the direction of tutoring.

    2. Where am I currently struggling?
Think about the specific topics, assignments, or study habits that have been most challenging. Identifying these areas allows the tutor to focus on the concepts that will have the greatest impact.

    3. How can tutoring help me reach my goals?
Some students benefit from reinforcement of difficult concepts, while others need help developing better study strategies or preparing for tests. Understanding what kind of support you need helps make tutoring more effective.

    4. Why is this goal important to me?
When students connect their academic goals to a bigger purpose—whether it’s pursuing a particular career, attending a certain college, or mastering a subject they care about—they tend to approach learning with greater focus and motivation.

At Tutoria Prep, we often begin by helping students clarify these questions so that each session is intentional, focused, and aligned with the student’s long-term academic development.
