Frequently asked questions

1. Listen to the student’s needs and goals: I need to understand what the student and the student's parents/guardians hope to achieve through tutoring and whether I believe I can help meet those needs and goals.

2. Review the student’s current writing: Before tutoring a student, I need to develop a relatively in-depth understanding of the student's current abilities, strengths, and challenges.

3. Tutoring Sessions: I firmly believe that there is only one way to learn to write like a pro - and that is to keep writing. I ask that the student submit to me, prior to each session, the student's most recent written work product (be it an outline, statement of concept, new draft or a revised draft). This pre-submittal allows me to thouroughly review the student's progress so that we can begin substantive work right at the start of each tutoring session. I break each actual session into a discussion phase (learning), an editing phase (doing), and a planning phase (anticipating and setting goals for the next session).
