Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Initially, we introduce the students to the Dugan Prep patented tactics, which are simple tricks and strategies that allow the students to maximize their potential when they finally do take the SAT. Also, we use the Socratic Method to constantly quiz students on the learning materials. Students spend much of class explaining certain aspects of math or grammar, ensuring their deep understanding. On top of that, our notes are taught in Q & A format, and use class time to push students to recall and explain their notes from memory. I have sorted almost all math and grammar questions into a list of question types. We teach the students how to recognize each type, then teach them the optimal response for each type.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
We've done 1 on 1 SAT prep for over 500 students since our founding in 2007, and the average improvement in 151 points. Founder Tim Dugan has been taking the SAT since he was 12 years old, and he has a perfect 1600 on the SAT, as well as an Ivy League degree. All of our tutors have 1500+ on the SAT and more than half our team are valedictorians or salutatorians from CBA.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
All tutors teach the same curriculum developed over 11 years, hourly rates are based on experience. Tutoring with Founder Tim Dugan is at a rate of $150 an hour. For all other tutors at the company, the rate is $80 an hour. Recently, we have added seminar classes with the founder, which are also $80 an hour. With class sizes being anywhere from 2 to 5 students and placement based on skill level, these classes offer an extraordinary deal to work with an Ivy League graduate.
How did you get started teaching?
Founder Tim Dugan started this company 11 years ago, when he was 15 years old, and a student at CBA. From here, he attended University of Pennsylvania and developed the Dugan Prep system of teaching. Eventually, he began to hire other highly qualified tutors who would continue to teach the Dugan Prep program.
What types of students have you worked with?
Since the beginning of the company in 2007, Dugan Prep has worked with students from SAT scores of 900 all the way through 1550. No matter what the initial level of the student, Dugan Prep offers major improvements. The average SAT gain for each student is 151 points, which points to the success of the SAT program as a whole. For any type of student, the Dugan Prep program leads to a massive improvement in SAT scores.
