Krissow Tutoring
About
I enjoy helping students become stronger readers and writers so that they can achieve both short and long-term goals. Currently, I am a 7th Grade Literacy teacher and have experience working with students from ages 5 to 15 years old. With a background in PARCC Test Prep and Middle School Literacy teaching/tutoring, I am confident I can prepare you in achieving your academic goals. I graduated from Montclair State University with high honors and have been teaching and tutoring for the past 10 years. My specialty is preparing students to exceed regarding the state reading and writing standards whether it is a PARCC, ACT, or SAT assessment they are preparing for. One of my greatest accomplishments in this field was when my students obtained 100% proficiency on the Language Arts 7th Grade PARCC assessment for two consecutive years.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
In order to understand the student's needs, I will ask them what they are hoping tutoring will accomplish for them. Once I understand the services they are looking for I will administer a pre-assessment. For example, if they need to work on reading comprehension skills, I will complete a running record with them to determine their reading level. Once I have determined that, I will have them read text that is a bit above their level to allow them to unlock new vocabulary and I will support them in completeing reading comprehension multiple choice and open ended questions. My support will help them to become stronger regarding reading comprehension responses until they are able to master reading assessments independently. In addition to strengthening their reading assessment skills, I will also support them in journaling by writing about their reading. This strategy supports them in practicing analytical essay responses to reading.
