What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA degree in Communications from Rowan University. I have also worked as a freelance copywriter and copyeditor for four years, during which time I developed impeccable grammar skills!
How did you get started teaching?
I got my start working as a reading coach for Americorps in Brockton, MA. I went on to work as a writing instructor in various after school programs and camps.
What types of students have you worked with?
Over the course of my career I have tutored K-12 students from a wide variety of backgrounds and starting-points.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a tutor in your area of expertise?
Make sure the tutor has a relevant background to your subject of need--preferrably some kind of paid experience working as a professional in the field.
What questions should students think through before talking to tutors about their needs?
Anything that comes to mind! The only "bad" questions are those that are left unasked. Pick your tutor's brain!
