About
Hi, I'm Winston! I'm currently a Mathematics graduate student at Stevens Institute of Technology. I completed my Pure and Applied Mathematics Bachelor's degree at Stevens, where I graduated 1st in Class with Highest Honors and made Dean's List every semester.
As an undergrad, I've tutored both 1-on-1 sessions and at the Drop-In Tutoring Center to help other undergrad students succeed in Calculus, Differential Equations, Probability & Statistics, Discrete Math/Logic, Intro-level Python programming, and more!
I like to think of my tutoring approach as having two major components: theory and computation. On the theory side, I focus on showing the intuition behind the concepts. Behind all of the scary-looking theorems and formulas are stories; stories about answering big questions from science, economics, or some random guy trying to win more poker games. The upshot to looking at the story is that it (at least in my opinion) makes it so that you don't need to put effort into memorizing formulas! (Do you ever need to put effort into memorizing the plot of your favorite movie/TV show?)
On the computation side, I focus on helping the problem-solving process and connecting it with the theory. For almost my entire undergrad career, I've graded Calculus and Discrete Math courses, so I know what kinds of mistakes students frequently make on homework/exams and have my own tips/techniques for preventing them! (It also means I have a decent sense of what graders are looking for.)
At the end of the day, I want to help make mathematics manageable and allow students to conquer whatever fears they have of math!
