Results of receiving tutoring with me are long lasting. I use models/pictures to explain the math. I look for weakness from the past that is causing chaos in the present and will ruin the future math learning. I try to make connections that kids understand. I've been doing this for a long time, and see that kids want to do well in math, but there are so many misconceptions from previous experience. Many students only know one way...their teacher's way....and sometimes it's based on a dead-end approach.
I like seeing the lightbulbs go off when I'm working with kids. They feel as though they can learn the math. I like to see what the problem is that is preventing the learning (the root cause) and address that. Once you hit that sweet spot, the confidence builds and you're ready for more success.

Patient, ALWAYS available, Always gives positive feedback. My son has a definite connection with and feels confident after a session.
My son has been working with Mr. Arias for the last 2 years and one of the things he appreciates the most is the way that the information is explained to him and that he makes sure he understands why the problem is solved the way it is. If it is a review for a test, we send the packet ahead of time so they are ready to make the most of the session. Mr. Arias is patient, kind and relates to my son in a way that my son is completely comfortable telling him he still doesn't understand a concept or needs to review a problem one more time, or asking many questions during the session. He makes sure my son leaves feeling confident about an upcoming quiz or test and it has helped increase my son's math grades. They also have covered/reviewed some concepts that he had on the ACT & SAT exams which was added bonus.
My 14 year old son says that Ric is fluent with the math concepts, gives (appropriately) detailed explanations, and he is charismatic. From a parents perspective, Ric is experienced enough to tap right in to what my son needs and easily adapts, and knowledgeable enough with the concepts that he can get to know the student as well. I hear my son chuckling every so often during tutoring, and he's talkative after, so I know he feels much better with the material after their work together. I'm glad to know that Ric's experience spans algebra, geometry and beyond. When something is a good thing, you know it. Working with Ric is a good thing.
Mr. Arias helped my son to pass Geometry after missing 40 days of school due to illness. Thanks to him and other dedicated teachers and tutors my son was able to catch up and move on to the next grade in high school.
Starts with a phone call or in-person conversation. We get right to it...let's meet and get started. Within one hour, your child will tell you if they want to meet with me again. After that, you know that you and your child have a safe place to learn/review the math. I prefer to work in my home, but will travel to you or a mutually convenient place for a "travel fee".
I graduated from U of Miami with a mechanical engineering degree and received an MBA while working at United Technologies in Florida. I knew that I had skills that weren't being tapped there and did not have the passion for that line of work. Teaching was always something I was intersted in and I'm glad I made the switch. My true passion is working with kids one-on-one in math. Been a school teacher working in math since 2001.
At this point, it's based on travel and topic, but usually in the 50-70 dollar range for teaching. My travel time is charged at 45 per hour.
